Killing of Osama Bin Laden

Osama Bin Laden was the leader of the terrorist group al-Qaeda. He is responsible for the September 11, 2001 attacks, the 1993 World Trade center bombing, as well as many other terrorist attacks. He was on the FBI Ten Most Wanted list. The U.S. had been searching for him for nearly ten years. They had finally discovered Bin Laden was hiding in Pakistan.

The C.I.A. managed to track Osama Bin Laden's location, which was at a compound in Abottabad, Pakistan. On May 2, 2011, at 1 a.m., the Navy SEAL Team 6 had raided Abottabad, Pakistan. The raid lasted approximately 40 minutes. Five people, which included Osama Bin Laden and his son, were killed by SEAL Team 6. No Americans were harmed during the raid.

At 11:30 p.m. EST, President Obama made an adress to the nation stating Osama Bin Laden had been killed. He was buried at the Arabian sea, which is an Islamic practice. It had been discovered that Osama Bin Laden had made plans to assassinate President Obama and carry out more attacks on the United States. His death was considered a major victory for the U.S. in the war against terrorism.
